Japanese Language Course Registration for AY 2020 Fall

For regular graduate students who wish to enroll in Japanese language courses, the registration procedure is described as below.
Please check the requirements carefully and complete the necessary procedure.

1. Requirements and Courses Available

●Regular graduate students can enroll in Japanese language courses offered by the Center for Japanese Language Education with the exception of certain courses.
●Generally, credits for Japanese language courses cannot be included as part of the requirement to finish a course of Graduate School. For further information of academic matters, please contact the  Administration Office of your Graduate School.
●Normally,you must take a Japanese language placement test to enroll in Japanese language courses.
However, as preventive measures against the spread of COVID-19, the placement test will not be conducted for AY2020 Fall semester.〔Refer to 2.3.&5.for more detailed information.〕
●Also an application form for registration must be submitted. 〔Refer to 5.〕

Please note the following items:
*1. J0, J1S, J2S and J3S students must take classes 3 times a week.
*2. J1, J2, J3 students must take all 5 classes per week because those classes are coordinated together.
   However, if you have a schedule conflict with graduate courses, you may consult with the CJLE office.
*3. Students eligible for those courses may not be able to enroll if those courses have exceeded their student
  quotas. This is because regular undergraduate students and special international students have priority.
*4. Students eligible for those courses may not be able to enroll if those courses have exceeded their student
  quotas. This is because regular undergraduate students have priority.Enrollees will be selected by lottery.
*5. These courses are available for students of the Graduate School of Business, only in the Fall semester.
  Further information will be given by the Graduate School of Business.You must take an interview (online) on   Monday, September 14, if you wish to enroll in these courses.CJLE will confirm your Japanese level by the   online interview.

2. Submission of Form A

If you wish to take Japanese language conurses, you must submit Form A to the CJLE office via email(nihongo@rikkyo.ac.jp)by following date.
  Deadline : Monday, August 31 at 4:00pm

Form A is available here.
After we receive your application, we will send you a confirmation email.
Make sure you receive a confirmation email from the CJLE office.
*If you are a new student who receives an acceptance letter from Rikkyo after the submission deadline and wishes to take Japanese language courses, please contact the CJLE office at nihongo@rikkyo.ac.jp immediately.
*Students who took Japanese language courses in the previous semester (AY 2020 Spring), are not required to take the placement test.
   "Announcements of the courses available” will be given on the designated day. 〔Refer to 4.〕

3. Japanese Language Placement Test

Normally, you must take a Japanese language placement test to enroll in Japanese language courses. However, as preventive measures against the spread of COVID-19, the placement test will not be conducted for AY 2020 Fall semester.
CJLE will determine your Japanese level provisionally, judging from your previous learning history. Your level may be adjusted as needed within a week after the class has started, by conducting an online consultation. If you wish to take Japanese language courses, please fill out the Form A and submit it to the CJLE office via email (refer to “2. Submission of Form A”).

4. For students who are exempt from the placement test for AY 2020 Fall

Students who took Japanese language courses AY 2020 Spring are not required to take the test. You will be informed of your levels and courses available for AY 2020 Fall individually via email from the CJLE office on the following date:Friday, September 11
   

5. Submission of Application Form B

●Confirm the classes you are eligible to take according to the "announcements of the courses available"(email).
   Fill in the classes you wish to take on Application Form B and submit it via email to the CJLE office (nihongo@rikkyo.ac.jp) by Wednesday, September 23 at 5:00pm.
●Application Form B will be emailed to you with the announcements of the courses available.
●Integrated Japanese 6-8: Enrollees will be selected by lottery. Detailed information will be given on
 the announcements of your levels and courses available.


□ If you do not submit Application Form B, you cannot enroll in the Japanese language courses.
  It is not necessary to take Japanese language courses, even if you have submitted Form A.
□ Please do not register for other classes on the day of the week/period
  in which you have applied for Japanese language classes through Application Form B.
  If you have already registered for other classes, please delete them.
  If not, the classes on Application Form B will not be registered.
□ Classes cannot be cancelled or changed after the date above,
  so please consider carefully upon your submission.
□ Confirm your final schedule on “登録修正確認表” (corrected personal schedule)
  or on the website after Monday, September 28 at 6:00pm(tentative).
  Adding or dropping classes for your own convenience is not allowed.
  If you find any errors on your registration, please email to the CJLE Office by Wednesday, September 30 at 5:00pm.
□ Please attend the class from the first week even if it is before the registration deadline.


When you have a visa status other than college student and wish to receive an announcement regarding 2021 enrollment of Japanese language courses, please contact us at nihongo@rikkyo.ac.jp.
(We will send the announcement to students who have a college student visa via an email from the International Office’s mailing list.)
