Japanese Language Course Registration for AY 2024 Spring

For regular graduate students who wish to enroll in Japanese language courses, the registration procedure is described as below.
Please check the requirements carefully and complete the necessary procedure.

1. Requirements and Courses Available

●Regular graduate students can enroll in Japanese language courses offered by the Center for Japanese Language Education with the exception of certain courses.
●Generally, credits for Japanese language courses cannot be included as part of the requirement to finish a Master's course of Graduate School. For further information of academic matters, please contact the  Administration Office of your Graduate School.
●You must take a Japanese language placement test to enroll in Japanese language courses.〔Refer to 2.3.〕
●Also an application form for registration must be submitted. 〔Refer to 5.〕

Please note the following items:
*1. J0, J1S, J2S and J3S students must attend the classes 3 times a week.
*2. J1, J2, J3 students must register for all 5 classes per week because those classes are coordinated together.
   However, if you have a schedule conflict with graduate courses, you may consult with the CJLE office.
*3. Students eligible for those courses may not be able to enroll if those courses have exceeded their student
  quotas. This is because regular undergraduate students and special international students have priority.

*5. These courses are available for students of the Graduate School of Business, only in the Fall semester.
  Further information will be given by the Graduate School of Business.

2. Submission of "Application Form for Japanese Language Placement Test" (Application Form A)

If you wish to take Japanese language courses, you must access the URL below and submit an Application Form A with required information by following date.

Deadline : Wednesday, March 20,2024 at 5:00pm (Japan Time)

Make sure you receive the copy of the application form after submission. It means your application is submitted successfully.
*A new student who receives an acceptance letter from Rikkyo university after the submission deadline and wish to take Japanese language courses, please contact the CJLE office at nihongo@rikkyo.ac.jp immediately.
*Students who took Japanese language courses in AY 2023 Fall are not required to take the placement test.

3. Japanese Language Placement Test

【Placement Test for Spring 2024】
1) Test Date:
Tuesday, March 26, 2024 (Japan Time)
        Reception: 12:45 pm-1:30 pm, Ikebukuro Campus, the 2nd Floor of Mckim hall (Building #15)
2) Duration: Approximately 3 hours
In case there are train delays or other exceptional circumstances, the start time may be changed. Please leave sufficient time in your schedule on the day.
3) Contents: Online test of grammar, vocabulary and kanji, composition and interview
4) Things to bring: Pencils and erasers
        【Continuing Students】Student ID Card
        【New Students】Letter of Acceptance or Admission Card for exam (Either printed one or displayed by smartphone.)
5) Announcement of the Test Result: Notified via E-mail

4. For students who are exempt from the placement test for AY 2024 Spring

Students who took Japanese language courses during the previous semester (AY 2023 Fall) are not required to take the placement test. CJLE office will send "the Japanese Language Course Registration Form "individually via email upon your request. Especially if you took J3, Integrated Japanese 4-6 or Integrated Japanese 6-8 during AY2023 Fall semester, please check "Japanese Language Course Registration Form" carefully. If you wish to receive the course registration form, please access the below URL and submit the application form.

5. Submission of the Japanese Language Course Registration Form (Application Form B)

Please apply for the courses you wish to take as the instructions below.
①Receive the course registration form the CJLE on Monday, April 1.
②Check your Japanese level and choose the courses that you would like to register for.
③Overwrite and save "the course registration form" and submit via Google form to the CJLE office.(Please do NOT change the file name.)

【Deadline】Thursday, April 11, 2024 at 5:00pm (Japan Time)
●Integrated Japanese 6-8: Enrollees will be selected by the CJLE if there are many applicants. Detailed information will be informed with
 the Japanese Language Course Registration Form.


□ If you do not submit the Application Form B by deadline, you cannot enroll in the Japanese language courses, even if you have taken the Japanese language placement test.
□ Please do not register for other classes on the day of the week/period in which you have applied for Japanese language classes through the Application Form B.
  If you have already registered for other classes, please delete them. If not, the classes on the Application Form B will not be registered.
□ Classes cannot be cancelled or changed after the date above, so please consider carefully upon your submission.
□ Confirm your final schedule on “履修登録状況画面” (the course registration status screen)
  on the website on or after Thursday, April 18th, 2024 at 6:00pm(Japan Time).
  Adding or dropping classes for your own convenience is not allowed.
  If you find any errors on your registration, please email to the CJLE Office by Thursday, April 25, 2024 at 5:00pm(Japan Time).
□ Please attend the class from the first week even if it is before the registration deadline.
