Rikkyo Student Highlights
This page highlights some of the major international exchange activities organized through the programs of the Center for Japanese Language Education (CJLE).
Rikkyo students play an active role in a wide variety of settings!

The CJLE hosts “The Annual Rikkyo University Japanese Speech Contest for International Students Sponsored by the Tokyo Saint Paul Lions Club”. The contest is supported by Rikkyo students who take on various roles, including members of the organizing committee who help run the event and speech advisors who work together with contestants to prepare their speeches.

In Japanese language classes offered by the CJLE, Rikkyo student volunteers support international students in their Japanese learning. They help students practice conversation and listen to their presentations.
> About Japanese Language Class Volunteers
The NEXUS (NEXt generation for Unity & Solidarity) Program differs from conventional admissions systems for international students. It does not require high-level Japanese language proficiency at the time of entry, but instead aims to develop students' Japanese-language skills through the Rikkyo University curriculum.
In this program, Rikkyo students serve as NEXUS tutors, providing support for international students in their daily university life.

▶ Learning Support Activities in the NEXUS Program
Under the NEXUS Program, international students take intensive Japanese language courses during their first semester. From the following semester, they begin taking regular undergraduate courses in Japanese.
To help NEXUS students get off to a smooth start in university life in Japan, each student is assigned a dedicated student tutor from the same college to provide academic and other support.
Through these activities, student tutors make use of knowledge and information gained from pre-service training, interim progress meetings, and post-program review sessions. As a result, they not only support NEXUS students but also deepen their own learning and personal growth

The Center for Japanese Language Education (CJLE) offers an approximately two-week Japanese-language program twice a year for students from Rikkyo University's partner institutions.
Rikkyo students participate in this program in various roles, such as running Japanese culture workshops, leading campus tours, volunteering in Japanese classes, and working as resident assistants. By communicating in English and easy Japanese, they provide close support to international students and help enrich the program.
The program is highly rated by international students, who appreciate the many diverse opportunities to interact and connect with Rikkyo students.

▶ Japanese Culture Workshops
The Student Organizations at Rikkyo University actively support these workshops, sharing the skills they have developed through their regular activities and practice.
The workshops feature lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on experience.
Since the workshops are led by fellow students, participants can enjoy learning in a friendly and welcoming atmosphere.

▶ Campus Tour Guides
On the first day of the program, Rikkyo students lead a campus tour for international students.
As they tour the campus and have lunch together in the student cafeteria, the Rikkyo students answer questions from international students and share what student life at Rikkyo is like.
▶ Live-in Student Assistants
Rikkyo students stay with the international students in their accommodation and provide day-to-day support during their stay in Japan.
They answer questions about life in Japan, Japanese culture, and the Japanese language, while also looking out for the international students' health and well-being.
On the first day of the program, they also plan and host a welcome gathering for the international students.
